The City as a LEGO\u00ae workshop<\/strong> in Bratislava, Slovakia, brought together students from four technical high schools, university mentors, city representatives and SK-AT Twin City Hub project partners. Held at Nov\u00e1 Tr\u017enica and MakerSpace Bratislava Nov\u00e1 Cvernovka, the workshop combined model building, electronics, city data and 3D printing within the EU co-financed Interreg SK\u2013AT Twin City Hub<\/strong> project, supporting STEM talent and technical education in the Bratislava\u2013Vienna region.<\/p>\n Over two days, on 30 September and 1 October 2026, <\/strong>participants assembled 4,481 LEGO\u00ae pieces<\/strong> into a working demonstrator of the street outside Z\u0160 a M\u0160 Milana Hod\u017eu on \u0160karniclova Street<\/strong> in Bratislava\u2019s Old Town. Students also built a wooden base to house and protect the electronics. Red shows too many cars travelling too fast outside the school. Blue demonstrates how drone analysis can identify critical locations and inform lower speed limits or new traffic signs, slowing traffic. Green presents an ideal future: more students walking and cycling, fewer cars, and a lower risk of accidents and congestion. The model makes the connection between data, planning decisions and safer streets visible and easy to understand.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery gallery_ids=”6585,6587,6586,6584″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” show_title_and_caption=”off” sticky_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text admin_label=”Headline 2″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n PhD students from SPECTRA CE at Comenius University in Bratislava led an urban planning activity focused on the area around Z\u0160 a M\u0160 Milana Hod\u017eu on \u0160karniclova Street, depicted in the final LEGO\u00ae model. The students worked together to develop solutions for traffic around the school and successfully presented their findings and proposals to a jury.<\/p>\n The workshop connected practical technical skills with the goal of creating a city where children can move around more independently. It involved students and teachers from SP\u0160 stavebn\u00e1 a geodetick\u00e1, SP\u0160 elektrotechnick\u00e1, SP\u0160 strojn\u00edcka and SP\u0160 dopravn\u00e1, with support from the City of Bratislava, the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava and MakerSpace Bratislava.<\/p>\n Participation in Student Welcome Week<\/strong> provided an opportunity to bring this collaboration and its approach to urban challenges closer to the public. The LEGO\u00ae model was designed by ModulAREbricka and the data for visualisation was provided by the City of Bratislava and Metropolitan Institute Bratislava.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The pilot program is part of the Twin City Future Innovation Manufacturing Hub<\/strong> and is implemented by SPECTRA CE at Comenius University in Bratislava<\/strong> (Slovakia)<\/strong> and EIT Manufacturing East (Austria).<\/strong><\/p>\n The aim is to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Austria and Slovakia and help accelerate STEM education and talent development for the manufacturing sector in Slovakia and Austria.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_code _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]The Workshop<\/h2>\n
