Industry at the heart of Europe – and the driving force behind our future

Today, industrial production in Europe still accounts for 15% of GDP, brings together 2.2 million companies, secures 30 million jobs and generates EUR 9.8 billion in turnover. Without a strong industry, we cannot secure our prosperity.

EIT Manufacturing East discussed the topic on 28 August 2025 during an exciting exchange with Ján Oravec, Member of the Board of Directors of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

The manufacturing sector in Slovakia and cooperation with Austria

As Slovakia is one of the most industrialised countries in Europe, this is a topic of high interest. The aim of the Twin City Hub project is to promote innovation and sustainable growth in the border region between Slovakia and Austria. The focus is on pilot projects in education, cooperation and start-up incubation – with positive effects on both the Slovak and Austrian sides of the border.
