How do you choose the right materials for your product so that it is functional, sustainable, and scalable?

The third sprint of the 2C Sprint & Roadshow Series Programme at accent Inkubator / accent Makerspace at Tulln an der Donau focused precisely on this critical decision-making in the product development process.

What exactly is needed? During the session, the teams:
🔹 analyzed material selection criteria – cost, performance, sustainability, and availability
🔹 compared differences between materials for prototypes and final products
🔹 reviewed the material solutions of their prototypes and identified the most suitable options for the final product.

Relevance of the programme for startups

Led by Prof. Ing. Juraj Beniak, PhD., an expert in mechanical engineering technologies and additive manufacturing at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave) with many years of experience in the field, the startup teams Aericomm (Martin Ondraščin & team, University Technology Incubator of STU InQb START programme), Cyan Cycle and EcoMycoSprout worked intensively on connecting material decisions with real product development.

Sprint 3 demonstrated that choosing the right material is not just a technical decision – it’s a strategic step that impacts the entire product lifecycle.

Why join the programme?

  • you will work on your prototype, applying critical thinking along the way and continuously gathering feedback that helps you get closer to your goal
  • you will receive valuable, personalized feedback from the real-world business and industry environment
  • you will go through this process alongside other startup founders, and this experience will help you grow as an entrepreneur
  • the Slovak-Austrian dimension of the program opens up new contacts and opportunities for development

What comes next?

This cross-border innovation pilot project was developed to support the needs of start-ups in the manufacturing sector. It is part of the Twin City Future Innovation Manufacturing Hub project, co-financed by the Interreg Slovakia-Austria programme and implemented by accent Incubator together with SAPIE-Slovak Alliance for Innovation Economy, the Slovak University of Technology Incubator and EIT Manufacturing East.

Meet the current startup cohort at the Manufacturing Day 2026 in Vienna in May and stay stuned for the next call (and pitches) in autumn 2026!
