15th Chinese five-year plan, implications for European industry
In March 2026, the 15th Chinese Five-Year Plan was adopted as part of the Two Sessions, the meeting of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The plan names a total of 24 technology sectors in which the Chinese leadership aims to make significant progress by 2030. Decisive breakthroughs” are to be achieved in six sectors with “extraordinary measures”.
These sectors are areas in which Western companies still hold large market shares. Some of these sectors have been seen as “bottlenecks” for decades and the goals of the “Made in China 2025” industrial strategy have not been achieved in them.
Bernhard Seyringer is already known to us as a speaker on the Industry 4.0 platform: he has been involved with China’s technology and economic policy for many years.
